Re: Berth main soloon

HH You do not mention which GB you have. In my early GB42 #139 (1970) the table lowers and there are two plywood fillers that fill the gap between the table and the settee. The cushion backs then go over the table to make a large mattress. Somewhere in this form I posted the measurements of the fill...

Re: Weight of an early glass GB42?

Boyd

My 1970 GB 42 has a listed "displacement" of 34,000 lbs or 17 tons.

Note Brassbounder is a wood GB 42 but I believe the displacement is the same or very close to the plastic GB42.

Re: Blinds dress up the interior

I have 1" wood strip blinds on Brassbounder. I use velcro type sticky strips on the base to hold them from swinging.

JR

Thank you for the photos with the appropriate measurements. I will check the same measured spots on my boat this weekend and get back to you.

Re: Starboard Rudder Bracket

JR Thank you for the reply and information. I would be very interested in the used bracket you have. Is a rudder bracket from a GB36 the same as one from a GB42? Also I am not sure that a port and starboard bracket are the same. I think they are but I have not actually measured the brackets yet. Ass...

Starboard Rudder Bracket

I cruised from the Anacortes Marina to the Cap Sante Marina fuel dock in Brassbounder (1970 GB 42 #139) and found my steering system jammed. I refueled and returned to Anacortes Marina just using the engines and examined the situation upon returning to my slip. I found: Lower steering clear Upper st...

I also use this method which I have previously described on this form. Mind you I did not describe the procedure as well as Bjorn. :-)

sgreen On my wheel (1970 GB 42) the center hub (chrome at lower station, bronze on flybridge) has a removable back. Take the wheel off the shaft by removing the center nut. Remove the screws on the back to remove the back cover. There should be wedges in the hub to hold the spokes tight. You can tig...

Re: Cost of Diesel

Jastafford, you do not mention where you are so we can not estimate your diesel price. Last weekend I put diesel in Brassbounder in Anacortes at Cap Sante fuel dock for $2.78/gal (over 100 gallon price). That is about the best price in this area and I am told it is much less than the gas station pri...

Re: Advice? Bow spigots and winter coming

Don AS you know the weather in PNW is really nothing compared to the east coast. I turn off the fresh water pump and open the valve on the pulpit tap. With no pressure and the tap open the tap will not crack. When you go cruising again just close the tap before you turn the pump back on. If you use ...

Re: Removing compass

You will have to remove the hinged cover first. There is a screw on each side for the hinge. Once it is off, pull the pin and the compass just lifts out. The frame is held to the dash with screws from the inside. There is a wire for the compass light that must be accommodated. Fair winds Don Brassbo...

I agree with Ken, leave it bare but be sure to bed it properly when you re-install it.

Re: Refrigerator hinges

I purchased new hardware online from Refrigerator Hardware Supply in California. See the following for contact info and part numbers. It was many years back so the prices, which are high, will not be current. http://www.grandbanksowners.com/gbb/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7823&p=43586&hilit=Ref...

Re: Engines occasionally surge

Tom I am not sure if this comment will apply but I had a similar situation when at the dock. My starboard engine would drop from 1100 RPM to 900 RPM on an irregular interval. After monitoring it for a few moments and watching everything else at the same time I found it was my alternator on the starb...

Re: Where do you have your wood GB Insured

Chris I have my 1970 GB 42 insured through Boat US and have had the policy on this boat for 13 years. As Bjorn mentioned it is now associated with Geico so I am not sure what will happen when t comes to renewal time. I had a sales survey when I bought the boat in 2005 but I have not been asked for a...
