On my GB-42 during the damp Pacific Northwest winters I run a dehumidifier in the main cabin. In the forward cabin I remove one of the deck pieces and aim a fan into the bilge. In the aft cabin I remove a drawer under the bed and aim a fan into that area. I also run small (100 watt) air driers in th...

Kurt, with your setup you should be very careful running on one tank. If one fills up it will overflow from the air vent. Ask me how I know.

Yes, the mast is visible in the upper right of the photo. It is the only part of the boat exposed outside the cover, which wraps around it just below the radar.

I have a cover made by boatcovers.ca. My previous cover lasted 10 years and withstood some crazy weather.

I have fought otters on my covered boat on several occasions. I tried many repellents, barriers, and carpet tack strips, none of which were effective. I managed to catch one in a live trap, but it escaped, bending the strong wire of the trap. They did not return after the trap incident, but next tim...

Jmcj, the time I posted a photo of my boat painted like a chart I was kidding. But this time I am totally serious. I don't joke around about my running gear.

I have painted my topsides twice in the 15 years I have owned Xanadu, and need to do it again. I used Brightsides both times and have been happy with the results. Don Prior, I will be at the Rendezvous. Let's get together and discuss paint over a cool beverage.

I use baby diaper ointment (zinc oxide) on my stainless steel shaft and bronze propeller for antifouling. I tried paint, but it came off very quickly. The ointment is very sticky, inexpensive, lasts a long time, and critters won't grow on it. I know this sounds too good to be true, but I have been d...

Until last summer I had a ST6000 autopilot system on Xanadu, a 1971 GB-42 single screw. It has a linear drive, but everything else is the same. It performed well and was quite reliable until the course computer went bad. They are not supported by Raymarine any longer and I couldn't find anyone to fi...

Selling inflatable and outboard

Together or separately. Inflatable: 1999 West Marine/Zodiac RU-310 HP, 10' 2" long. This is the one that has the soft bottom and high pressure floor. The best feature is that it weighs only 57 lbs. and is easy to get on and off the boat. It will also fit into a bag when deflated. This one is in...

It just goes to show you how polite this forum is. There were lots of views on the photo, but no one came out and said what you and others must have been thinking. I don't mind the Coast Guard. Someday I might really need them, and I enjoy meeting these polite and very well trained youngsters who wa...

Ken, It wasn't as much trouble as it might seem. I used my iPad and an app called iColorama, same one I used on the attached photo. Credit for the photo goes to Ron Moller who took it from Gravenstein just before I was boarded by the Coast Guard last September. (I got a "good as gold" slip...
