Re: Half Moon Bay cruise from San Francisco

Kathy and I made this trip, and then some on to Santa Cruz and Monterey. On advice from my very experienced coastal sailing brother I evaluated three major obstacles. 1. Take the ship channel well past the shallows outside the gate before turning south. Ditto for the return. Bend this rule a bit if ...

Tarpon Springs. FL Party Boat Rental

Can anyone advise about renting a party boat in this area? We have friends staying in Hudson and they have asked us to rent a party boat and take them river/bay cruising. The on-line reviews are scarce and largely unfavorable. Also, looking for day trip ideas.

Pointe du Hoc

I recommend starting at Pointe du Hoc. It is a smallish area the tells the larger story very well. There is a good visitor center, sweeping views of the beaches and unfenced remnants of the gun emplacements and observation bunker. The kids can wander around. There are many photo opportunities and a ...

Canada Chart CD - Want to buy

I would like to buy someone's old BC waters chart CD. I am trying out some ideas for presenting our memories of two years in BC and will not be needing the charts for navigation. I regret leaving our copy on Penny Lane when we sold her.

Please send a PM with if you can assist.

Over the years I have seen pictures of several conversions. You can recover most or all of the lost drawer storage in a cleverly designed desk. It would be a very useful change, IMHO.

Hit the Yachtworld listings to see if any of the 42s or 36s on the market have been so modified.

I thought I made a mistake, but I was wrong.

Up in "repairs" I tell the tale of fixing a leak on the pressure side about two weeks ago. It involved removing a vacuflush tank, some lumber and a little engine room yoga to get the patch in place. I have been very sensitive to every little burp of the water pump for the last ten days. I ...

I stand corrected. My Verizon LTE was just showing the WiFi picked up by the computer, not by the modem.

Since I ended up fixing both a supply leak and a pressure leak, I changed the thread name to cover both. Here's how it turned out. Thank you, to Deno for suggesting the pipe cutter. It would have been impossible without it. The other must have tool for tight spaces is a box end wrench, or, nut drive...

Hi: New leak on Penny Lane on the pressure side at a "T" junction. This will require removing an 8D battery & box to access, maybe two 8Ds. Anyway, What's the drill for changing out a leaky "T"? Can I just remove the T and a few inches of pipe in each direction and replace wi...

I also suggest spraying Tilex Mold and Mildew Remover on the window and letting it run down into the felt. It will dissolve the gunk and free the window. I just use a little to make sure it stays off the paint. Once the window is open, I clean out the track with a paper towel.

Jeppesen PC Planner

I am looking for a sample Jeppesen PC Planner route file. If you use PCPlanner, would you please send me a short route attached as a file to a PM? This format is accepted by Furuno and I am trying to see what's inside.

SF Bay to Sacramento & Petaluma

Kathy and I spent ten days cruising the Sacramento River with a trip up the Petaluma River on the way home. Both rivers are easy to navigate and there is plenty to see and do along the way. We stopped at Pittsburg Yacht Club on the way up. This was a sheltered refuge from the prevailing winds of Sui...

Internet connection

I have been using a Verizon 4G-LTE USB modem for about 6 months. It is connected to a Cradlepoint wi-fi base station. The cost for 8GB of data is about $80/month. Lower cost plans are available. So far... Placement of the USB modem is critical as we live on the edge of 4G coverage. I have a high qua...
