Re: Wood burn around swim step mounts and exhaust flange

Here is a PDF document that describes how to use a reference electrode and gives ranges for appropriate voltages.

Re: Wood burn around swim step mounts and exhaust flange

My understanding is that your symptoms indicate over-protection, i.e. too much zinc area. You can validate by measuring voltage relative to a silver chloride reference anode.

Re: Marine Gear

It seems the clutch is slow in activating. I'd check simple things first, e.g. fluid level at idle and check filter/screen if this transmission has one. Change fluid if it has not been done recently.

One possibility would be to convert one head into a real shower.

Re: Battery Charging Issue 82 GB42MY Single Lehman

Check if the charger has two outputs, then you could route one to the generator battery. If the charger has only one output going to the house bank, you can put an automatic charging relay between the house bank and the generator battery. It will allow the generator battery to be charged when the en...

Re: Window sills have started growing... stuff - how to repair?

I can relate being in a similar climate. I'd do a thorough cleaning and then replace the felt padding on the movable panes. Search for "window felt padding" on Amazon. Most importantly, there should be drain holes in the window tracks. Make sure they are open.

Re: Teak deck wear - major renovation or just clean it and live with it?

That deck does not look bad. Just needs a gentle (!) cleaning and some of the proud caulking removed to enable water to drain. A regular salt water wash down will help prevent mold growth. Sanding and two part cleaners should be used as a last resort only.

Re: IDing stuck injector

To test, can't you just loosen the fuel line to the injector while running in idle? If there is no change in idle you found the bad injector (or bad cylinder).

Re: WABASTO HEATER PROBLEMS

Most likely you need to replace the fuel nozzle. Simple to do. Swing out the burner assembly and replace. Make sure ignition electrodes are adjusted correctly. You can also clean the flame sensor window. Webastos don't like to sit. Diesel in the fuel nozzle will eventually dry out and prevent proper...

Re: Price for Teak Removal and Paint Decks GB42

The easiest way to trim back the caulking is by using an oscillating flexible scraper blade. Search for Fein tools/flexible scraper blade.

You probably know all this but be gentle when you clean your decks to minimize additional wear. Go across not with the grain. Minimize sanding.

Groco Paragon Snr water pump rebuild

We have two of the Groco Paragon Senior pumps in our (new to us) boat. They are under the stairs to the midship master stateroom. They are quite noisy when operating. Nobody will remain sleeping after the pump cuts in. Has anyone replaced the impellers via the master service kit and did that quiet d...

Re: Outboard on GB32?

Here is a picture of the 65' boat that used three outboards to get home. He ran aground and wanted to get home for the repairs. Since your rudder still works you would just lock the outboard in place except maybe for close quarter maneuvering. You w...

Re: Outboard on GB32?

It can be done. I'm aware of a 60+ footer that was moved > 1000 miles with three outboards on the swim platform. I'd stiffen up the swim platform with temporary plywood sheets on top and bottom and look for a high torque/larger prop outboard. You may not need 40hp. Fuel bladder in the cockpit and yo...

Re: Cummins 4BT re-power a GB32?

It is certainly a well proven engine and would seem a good match at the 150hp rating. It probably means new transmission as well but you should be able to keep your shaft. It is probably not as smooth as your existing six cylinder. I can't see much downside other than costs and ROI.

Re: Circut Breakers

The shore side ground fault breaker for 240V/50A is simply looking for all the current in the hot leads to either return on the neutral or the other hot lead and not "leak" to the ground wire or into the water. That means your neutral cannot be connected to ground while on shore power. Now...
