Re: Fuse holder on transom of my 1998 42 Europa

If it's done like my 95 42 classic, yes. My fuse holders were 50amp 120V which I swapped out for 30amp 120V when I changed over the shore power connection at same time. Now that said, there may be some big differences between a 42 Europa and a 42 classic.

Isotherm 160 Freezer/Frig installed

I replaced our freezer with an Isotherm 160 frig/freezer drawer combination. It was a tight fit but it fits well. Also have another Isotherm 160 with two frig drawers that will go in when I have the time. Both old and new freezer went the through the starboard side window, new one with about a 1/2&q...

Re: Refrigerator Removal tips/ help

I'm considering buying this same unit... would you recommend it if you had it to do over? It's either this one or the Vitifrigo but I haven't found much of a dealer network for those here in the US. And it looks like you got the flush version rather than the "proud" mount, correct?

Re: Replacing domestic fresh water pump

I bought a Marco UP6/E and couldn't be happier. Much quieter than the one I took out. Runs at about 36PSI and I have an expansion tank to pick up the slack so it doesn't run every time I turn on a faucet.. More money than the ShurFlo but a lot quieter.

Re: Bow/Stern Thrusters

Have you considered an articulated rudder? Might give you the maneuverability you're looking for without the mechanical complexity.

Re: What size Zincs of Grand Banks 42 Struts

Hm.. I have zincs on the prop shafts and zincs on the trim tabs and also zincs on the back of the transom but I don't think my 42' classic has zincs on the struts. The ones on the back of the transom are unfortunately I'd say a bit undersized but to get to them on the inside of the transom involves ...

Re: Cutless Bearings and Stuffing boxes

Hi All I would like to have my cutless bearings and stuffing boxes replaced before summer. The stuffing boxes are original and I'm a little worried about the fittings for the raw water, I know I can replace them with new brass fittings but would consider new dripless shaft seals. Does anybody know ...

Re: Some pictures from our deck and hand rail rework.

What did you do with the original teak railing!?I have a project I could use them on. I've removed the headliner in the boat and I'm going to be doing the ceiling in wood.. I'm planning to use some of the teak to trim out the wood. I probably won't be using all of it though. I sold one of the gates...

My boat came with a 2x4 that was 7' long and on the end was cut in a U shape to receive the boom. Seemed to work fine although nothing great to look at. It tucks right into either the teak step and the rear of the house or the teak deck and the rear of the step, depending on what height you want it ...

Andy, if you don’t mind my asking, would you share who did the deck work and how much it cost, approximately? We had it done at Cap Sante Marine in Anacortes and it ran about $68K for the deck overhaul. There was a lot of work to do and they did a good job. The original quote was for quite a bit le...

Some pictures from our deck and hand rail rework.

When we bought our 1995 42' classic in August the decks had water in the deck cores. Made the decision to pull the teak and go with Soft Sand nonskid. While the boat was in the shop, we also decided to remove the teak hand rail and install a stainless steel one. I also removed the varnish from the c...

I found this youtube video on repairing teak decks quite helpful. This is the manual way so perhaps too much work.

Had same issue with some crevice corrosion on my 1995 42'. The yard quoted me $5000 per shaft (for type 22 which is a bit overkill in that type 19 would probably do) plus a total of $5000 for labor to replace both. Turns out once we pulled the shafts, the crevice corrosion wasn't too bad so instead ...
