BLACK PLASTIC NAME PLATES

Postby MONAB » Tue Nov 06, 2018 8:18 am

Hi My GB32 #821 has a collection of non-matching switch identification plates as electronics/equipment added over the years. Any one have a source for the original black plastic (shiny finish) with white lettering that would match the original breaker panel?
Many thanks, Edward Blake IRONSIDE

Any engraving business in your area will be capable of making custom labels for you. Just bring in a sample and a list of labels you need, or you can search the internet for engraving service and have it done on line.
Check out the web address below or do a search on your own, the internet is full of them:

Thanks very much for link. I have tried local shop and "pipemarker.com" and searched on-line but not yet found an exact or near match to size and style of originals which are 1 1/2" X 3/8" glossy black with 1/8" white block letters and bevelled edge. My wife says I am being "too fussy"!

Which ones do you need? I'm rewiring my boat now and may be able to help.

I have been using a Brother electric label maker from Staples. It prints white letters on black label tape. After a bit of trimming it looks just like the original plates and you can put whatever you want on them.

The black/white/black plastic used to be call Trafolyte back when I was an apprentice 60 years ago. It is very easy to put the beveled white edge on using a fine file/ Just hold the file at 45 degrees and file until you get the width of white showing that you need.

The edges are painted black as that is about the only way to hide the white that is the middle laminate.
Good luck,

Greetings, several years ago I used Ward’s Marine Electric in Ft Lauderdale, FL to make duplicates of the Grand Banks labels. Same material, bevel, font, etc....looks like the original OEM labels. Just tell them what name/circuit you want to engrave and the dimensions of the label. Or provide them a sample to copy from would be better. Hope this helps.
