Gross Tonnage, GB 42?

Postby firstbase » Tue Jul 03, 2018 6:53 pm

Trying to find the Gross Tonnage of my GB42 Classic. I calculate about 47 tons but may be a little high. Know it doesn't matter much really but does anyone know the traditionally used figure?

You don't say what year your boat is (probably doesn't matter much) and I presume a Classic from the avatar, but I can only tell you that the GB factory specs list a displacement at half load of 17 tons.

It is a 1987 GB Classic. Looking for Gross Tonnage, not sure what you mean by "displacement at half load of 17 tons"???

Remembered that my documentation shows gross tonnage and it says 26 tons. That seems low. Little confused on this as the traditional calculation, even using very conservative figures, is in the mid 30's. Isn't there somewhere that shows GB's "official" tonnage?

Why is the GT important?

Found the names of several documents 42's of the same vintage and then looked them up on USCG documentation website. All showed 26 or 27 GT so that must be the correct figure.

The gross tonnage has nothing to do with the weight of the boat; its a volume measurement of your boat.
