Securing Anchor Line to Bow Cleats

Securing Anchor Line to Bow Cleats

Postby Captrigney » Wed Jun 19, 2013 12:15 pm

I have nylon anchor line on my 1983 GB with an Ideal windlass rope windlass. I don't think I want to use the windlass to secure the anchor line. Are the bow cleats on this model backed strong enough to be used for anchoring? The Admiral freaks out when setting the hook using the bow cleats. She's afraid they'll pull right out. She's often got a point, so I thought I'd ask how it's done out there.

That's what I use and almost every boat I've been on too. I understand nervous nellies, I have one too.

Cheers!!

I agree that it is better to put the strain on the main cleats than on the windlass, preferably by using a snubber bridle to both cleats.
