We recently bought an 81 GB Classic 42, it's a single screw repowered with a John Deere 6068 and I'm quite happy with it. We live in Anacortes and I've fished the San Juans in smaller boats for the last 30 years, I think I know the water pretty well, but handling a 42' GB compared to a 24' aluminum boat is quite the leap.

I really enjoy the water and boats and look forward to learning from you. I can already see there's a wealth of info here, and helpful people to boot. Please have patience with me if I ask simple questions, I already asked the broker from whom I bought the boat why they mention that the heads have been rebuilt with such a new engine. I forgot there are other heads in these boats.

Cheers,

Jim S.

Welcome aboard!

Fishing the San Juans is a lot easier with a depth sounder near where you are fishing from. The aft cockpit is usually a good location. Always a good idea to keep track of depth, a GPS location is handy too. :)
Good luck,

Jim, congratulations on your purchase. Please consider registering for the 2018 Puget Sound Grand Banks Rendezvous. (see Events Announcements section for notification) Generally, there are approximately 70+ boats in attendance, providing many opportunities for knowledge sharing and good times. Best of luck.

Jim

Welcome to the GB Board.

I also recommend going to the Rendezvous in May. After you leave Anacortes for the Rendezvous you will end up in a convoy of GB's from Seattle, Everett, Oak Harbor, Laconner and all the marinas in Anacortes.

It is a great place to get caught up in all things GB as well as good food, great people, lots of dogs and, of course, grog.

You will find there are considerable GB's in Anacortes and most of them will be there. It is always nice to get to know your marina neighbors.
