Anyone have recent experience with installing one of these? I thinking of adding one for those tricky docking situations.

This is off topic, but what is your Hull number? We have a thread about 36 classic production numbers which is un resolved so far.

We are hull 1134. I have also seen 1133 and 1135 on the West Coast this summer.

I am very interested in this also. Have you seen it on ANY 36s before?

Would be curious as to HP and mounting issues.

Mike I haven't found a reference to a Sideshift unit being installed on a GB 36. I have a marine service company looking into it for me. The mounting issue results from the water tanks being up against the stern in the lazarette.

I think there is a 32 on this board with one, a 1971 woodie.

Thank you, now 1135 is the highest GB36 hull number I know of so far! Cool

My Stern is clean, plenty of room.
One of my water tanks are in lazarette up against the firewall.

I see no need issues installing it ourselves if is hauled.

As a single screw I look for incremental speed.
Easy speed is picked up running with half a tank of water and fuel.
At least a knot.
Curious if you have noticed this.
We have a 135 Lehman, and cruise at 1600-1650 rpm.
A 1" prop screw increase also gave me a solid knot at same rpm.
So we are turning the same prop as a 36 classic, 36 Europa is 1" less for windage.

GB36 #1135 is NOT on the West Coast. She just changed hands here on the East Coast. I aught to know, I tried to buy her but she went for more than I was comfortable spending. Someone got a special boat. Twin 210 Cummins and a centerline queen aft cabin.

My apologies. I must have heard (or most likely) remembered wrong. The boat was from the San Juan's and had been with the owners for quite a while. I'm now thinking it must have been 1133 and probably 1132 that I saw this summer.

Having missed my opportunity to acquire the last one, I'd love to find another of the last six produced; but I'm not sure any of them are in the East Coast.

Apologies for having veered off topic.

I installed wedges on the back edge of the rudder which made a huge difference in maneuvering. A common trick from my commercial fishing days. Might be worth a try for little more than the cost of a haul out

You might want to check out Dickson Stern Thrusters in California. My 1990 GB 32 had one installed in the 90s that I really like. Mounts on the transom with just a few holes, so no BIG holes in the boat. It is hydraulic (driven off front of engine), so no limit on how long it can be run, unlike many electric thrusters. Might be a bit less expensive too.
In tight situations, a stern thruster REALLY helps! I have found I have no need for a bow thruster.
