Lower/Raise mast on 1990 GB 32?

Postby oldersalt » Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:44 am

Dear GB owners,

I have a 1990 GB 32 with a metal mast which I will soon need to lower so the boat can be put on a truck. I have never done this before.

1. Will I need a mast crutch attached to the transom, or can the hinge support the weight of the mast?

2. Will I need a gin pole to raise it? Might the boom work for this?

3. Any other "gotchas" or things I should be thinking about?

Thanks in advance,
Oldersalt

On our 36 the mast is hinge at the bottom I lower and raise mine by myself all the time as I have a boat house. I made a saddle if you will out of plywood to hold the mast off the deck. That being said when we trucked our boat the company removed our boom and laid the mast down on the house yours being a 32 I would think you could lower it and pull the mast off and lash it to you side deck with protection of course. Our mast has the radar also attached to it and its wood. Probably not to much help but something to look at.
