We have activated the Avatar capabilities. This means you can show an image/photo of your choice under your username on all posts automatically. The vessel info will show as well, if you wish.

Go to Preferences and complete the information if you wish to display these.

The 150 by 150 is the max size. It could be 150 X 120 or whatever, just so that neither dimension exceeds the max. 20 kb is also the max size. We have it set to any file type. So the limitations are no larger than 20 kb and max 150 pixels in any dimension. Let us know if you still have a problem.

I have been trying to upload an avatar. I have cut and cropped all i can. I have set the quality to 150 pixels per inch and cropped the size of the page down to fractions of an inch. I have then cut the quality down to 72 pixes per inch. Still, I am unable to get the size down past about 21.5 pixels. Any other tips?

Thanks

It is not the resolution of the image (dots per inch or dpi) which determines if the image will be uploadable. Rather, it is the overall size of the image.

Most images are taken using a 4:3 ratio between width and height (800x600, 1280x960, 2048x1536, etc). Such an image, scaled down to max avatar size, would be about 150x112 pixels. If your image was scanned from a print (4x6 or 5x7) the ratio would be different, but the maximum width of 150 pixels still applies.

You need to use an application which allows you to scale an image by specifying either the new pixel size or a down-sizing by percent (you'll need to calculate what this means). Make sure you scale height and width the same. If necessary, you can then crop the image further.

Captain Paul—I had the same problem, even in Photohop. I was using the "Resize Image" command under the Help menu and set the image size to a max size of 150 pixels and even setting the final quality (size) when saving a JPG to it's lowest setting and never could get the image to less than about 60 kb. But I finally was made aware of the "Save For Web" command under the File menu in Photoshop and it worked perfectly. Don't know what software you're using but that worked in Photoshop.

Ok, if you are having trouble uploading an avatar file you can just upload it to a server or online photo account (www.photobucket.com) and paste the link in the "off-site avatar" field... Worked for me Laughing

One more thing...

Make sure that you delete your old avatar FIRST by checking the box under your 'non-displaying thumbnail' (red x), click submit, then paste the link for the image as specified above..

If You happen to have a Photoshop go to upper menu bar, click edit and then `save for web´. Mitja.
